Mission Giving and Activities - 2007
Most of Littlefield's mission responsibilities fall to the Church and Society committee.
These responsibilities include addressing social issues facing the community around us
and in the world at large, and providing an interpretation of our mission the church is
called to perform. In 2007, Committee activities focused on the following:
- Mission funding for the Detroit Presbytery, Synod of the Covenant, and General Assembly.
- Promotion, collection, and distribution of Presbyterian validated offerings:
One Great Hour of Sharing, Pentecost Offering, Peace Offering, and Joy Offering.
- Distribution of Local Mission funds to the following:
Littlefield In-As-Much fund
Interfaith Thanksgiving Service
Gleaners Food Bank
Kroger gift cards to Becker School for needy families
Malawi YEP program
Presbytery of Detroit: Anti-Racism Team; Katrina Relief Mission trips
Churches for Middle East Peace
Near East Theological Seminary
Princeton Theological Seminary Scholarship Program
The Rebuilding Alliance
Freedom House
Fort Street Presbyterian Church Open Door
Metropolitan Christian Council – Detroit/Windsor
- Promotion, collection and distribution of our "2 cents a meal" program.
- Peace camp for neighborhood youth for three nights in August (with lots of help from members of the congregation and youth from University Presbyterian Church).
- Support for Interfaith Ministries program of Presbytery and ministerial outreach to
the diverse local community.
- Communication to the congregation on issues of peace, hunger, and social justice.
The programs and activities of this committee represent responsibilities shared with the
entire congregation and their support and direct involvement are noteworthy.
